We Play Too is lobbying for equitable athletic funding across Virginia schools, grounded in the belief that sports are a powerful driver of social mobility. We advocate for baseline facility standards and access to school-based athletic opportunities regardless of a student’s socioeconomic background or ZIP code. By ensuring schools in under-resourced communities have quality fields, equipment, and coaching, we aim to level the playing field—raising competition, expanding talent pipelines, and reducing reliance on exclusive private clubs that often determine who has a real chance at collegiate recruitment. Our goal is simple: every student should be able to pursue sports through their school, not their family’s income.
To advance this mission, we are partnering with Virginia policymakers, including Delegate Michael Jones and Senator Lashrecse Aird, to move forward legislation focused on athletic equity and facility standards across school districts. Beyond government partners, we collaborate with school systems, college athletic programs, and community organizations to shape solutions grounded in student needs and lived experiences. Through these relationships, we blend policy-building with community-level engagement, ensuring that the changes we advocate for reflect both high-level legislative priorities and the realities of young athletes across Virginia.
